Order Recovery Tool for Out-of-Stock Products
Business Problem
The client was losing users due to out-of-stock products. Platform users frequently ordered products with extended delivery times, only to discover the product couldn't be purchased at that moment. Both sides lost - users couldn't rent equipment and the client couldn't generate revenue.
Solution
The solution was creating an internal tool to suggest similar products to customers instead of the one they originally rented. The tool takes into account the customer's rental history and an AI-based algorithm to propose the best possible offer.
Technical Decisions
I selected models from OpenAI: GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1-mini, and GPT-5, and also leveraged the Recombee platform to maximize alignment of alternative product recommendations with customer preferences.
Results
Conversion jumped from a few percent (no recovered orders) to 50% immediately and remained at that level.
